Following last year's silver anniversary of bringing Puppet Theatre to Turin, INCANTI's 26th edition features unusual international performances on today's stage of this inexhaustible genre.
Puppet Theatre aimed at an adult audience is able to stage powerful, profound and contemporary stories, capable of stimulating thought, arousing feeling and causing amazement, while both amusing us and sensitising us to themes of our time.
The three-year travel theme of the festival continues, exploring the idea of travel in a broad and metaphorical sense, ranging from classical mythology to virtual travel through technology, art and innovation. Incanti is also undertaking a range of projects related to its other vocation: education and production geared to new generations. This involves the Cantiere project in collaboration with major figures in Italian Puppet Theatre, the PIP (Production Incanti Project), and the Accademia project, which hosts world-renowned schools of Puppet Theatre.
Other countries represented at this edition include Peru, Canada, Spain and Switzerland, with a focus on French Puppet Theatre supported by the Fondazione Nuovi Mecenati. Highlight events are a tribute to one of the fathers of Italian Puppet Theatre, Guido Ceronetti (in collaboration with the Study Centre of the Teatro Stabile and Foundation Circolo dei Lettor)i, and the yearly encounter "Puppets and Cinema" in collaboration with the National Cinema Museum and Asifa.
We express gratitude to the institutions that continue to believe in INCANTI: the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Regione Piemonte, City of Turin, the Compagnia di San Paolo, the Fondazione CRT, the Fondazione Nuovi Mecenati, the Municipality of Grugliasco and the Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo as well as to all the institutions which have been accompanying us from the start: the Education Department of the Castello di Rivoli - Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Cinema Museum and the Fondazione Teatro Ragazzi e Giovani.
